Faith Baptist Church History

Faith Baptist Church was organized in 1952 with Marvin B. Cook as its founding pastor. Rev. N.G. Lemmons, Pastor of Davidson Memorial Baptist Church in Shelby, N.C. was instrumental in the organizing of the church as a new work in the Dravo Community of Southern Cleveland County.

The Lord used Bro. Cook and his ministry to reach out to the community as the church began to grow. The church building progressed from a tent to a little block building and then a remodeled brick church. For twenty-two years the church was blessed under Bro. Cook as Faith Baptist Church became a spiritual lighthouse in a dark world.

After Bro. Cooks retirement, Bro. Billy Boone was called as pastor. He served faithfully for twelve years. The church grew spiritually and physically to a membership of 150 members.

In March of 1987 J. Barry Goodman was called as the church's third pastor. The Lord continued to bless the church as it grew with more souls being saved and saints growing in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. In 1989, with 250 members crowded in the remodeled building, the church purchased 10 acres of land at the corner of highway 18 S. and 180. In November of 1990 phase I of a two phase building program was completed with the dedication of a new 17,500 sq. ft. auditorium and education facility.

In the 2010 the Lord led the church to build a new building for fellowship, education and spiritual enrichment purposes. This building includes a furnished kitchen, gymnasium, banquet room, and multiple class room facilities. This currently gives Faith Baptist Church two properties with buildings totaling over 20 acres of land.

The spiritual ministry of Faith Baptist Church has been so richly blessed. Hundreds have been saved and followed the Lord in Believers Baptism. The church experiences tremendous growth in membership each year with a current average attendance of 500 at Sunday morning and 400 at evening services.

Our missionary outreach across the U.S. and the world has greatly expanded to over 100 mission projects. A milestone of nearly $150,000 yearly in mission giving was reached in 1995 and has continued by our Lords magnanimous power. Our goal is to soon have a missionary endeavor in every open country in the world.

The church staff has expanded to three full time workers, not to mention those who spend tireless hours of dedication to the ministry on a volunteer basis.

The ministry of glorifying God in music has been an enormous contribution to the spiritual enrichment of the church. The 100 voice adult choir, over 50 voice youth choir and a multitude of quartets, trios and soloists have blessed the hearts of worshipers every week.

"To God be the Glory, great things He hath done" is a truism of the 61 year ministry of the Faith Baptist Church. May the Lord always be glorified and honored for evermore. Amen

Bible preaching, Spirit-filled worship, Christian fellowship and a world-wide missionary outreach is what Faith Baptist Church is all about. Giving our Lord and Saviour the praise and preeminence in all ministries of our church is the goal of our staff, leaders, and congregation.

We offer special ministries for all ages from infants to the Senior Saints. Our desire is to help men and women, boys and girls trust in the Lord for salvation and then train them in Christian service.

We invite you to join with us in "Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith." Hebrews 12:2
